Dr. Tyffani Monford Dent
About
Dr. Dent is the Owner of Monford Dent Consulting & Psychological Services, LLC through which she provides ongoing mental health consultation, and assessments. In 2023, she expanded her clinical practice to include therapy services with a focus on Black women and adolescents.
Dr. Dent has served as a consultant and trainer under various federal and state grants in the areas of sexual violence in juvenile correctional systems, and prevention/response to campus sexual assault. She serves as a federal grant reviewer through SAMHSA, the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention and the Office of Violence Against Women. Dr. Dent has provided mental health trainings and served as a panelist at conferences throughout the United States focused on culturally informed mental health services, therapy and assessment services with adolescents who have caused sexual harm, gender-responsive treatment, the school-to-prison pipeline and Black girls, educating Black girls in white spaces, intersectionality, and social justice work. Dr. Dent has served on several state, national, and international boards addressing issues of mental health, sexual violence prevention and intervention (both with survivors and with adolescents who have caused sexual harm), and human trafficking. She is an active member of the Ohio Women of Color Caucus, an organization that brings together Women of Color working in the fields of domestic and sexual violence. Dr. Dent is the Immediate Past President of the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA), and has served on its Juvenile Practice Committee, Prevention Committee, and its prior Race, Power, & Privilege Taskforce. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice.
She is the co-author of Becoming Who I Want to Be: A Good Lives Workbook for Young Women and its accompanying Counselor’s Edition. In addition, she has developed three curricula focused on the needs of Black women survivors of sexual assault: Culturally Informed Work with Black Women Survivors of Sexual Assault; Safe Space: Support Group Curriculum for Black Women Survivors of Sexual Assault, and Sisters of Tamar Support Circle Guide.
