About
Dr. Charles Ukaoma, is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, (LPCC), Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LAADC) as well as an Internationally Certified Co-Occurring Professional (ICCDP). He also Certified at an Independent Practitioner Level (SOTP-I) by the California Sex Offender Management Board for the assessment and treatment for individuals who have been convicted of varieties of sexual offending behaviors by the California court system. He has been working in the arena of substance use disorders and mental health disorders for 36 years. Dr. Ukaoma received his A.S. in Administration of Justice at Wichita State university. He also received his A.A. and B.S. degrees in Social Sciences with Emphasis in Sociology at Emporia State University. Dr. Ukaoma received his first M.A. degree in Sociology at Emporia State University. He received his second M.A. degree in Counseling Psychology at National University. Dr. Ukaoma received his third M.S. degree in Social Work and Community Services at Capella University.
Dr. Ukaoma started his clinical journey working with the adolescent population in the residential treatment setting where he had championed the holistic and integrative treatment approaches to the treatment of varieties of behavioral issues, then transitioned to working with children and their families as a Family Reunification Social Worker at the Department of Social Services. Throughout his professional life, he has also worked with adults receiving clinical services in both residential treatments setting as well as in the outpatient setting where the centrality of the treatment approaches was focused on the patient's safety, community safety as well as in addressing the whole person's needs by comprehensively addressing their physical, emotional, and psychological needs with optimal outcomes. Dr. Ukaoma has extensive clinical backgrounds working with adolescents, adults and families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds who are facing behavioral challenges often exacerbated by mental health issues and substance use disorders. Dr. Ukaoma uses a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches in addition to creating and sustaining a therapeutic space where collaborative work with each client (Person-Centered approach) could consistently take place; thus, assisting each client in achieving meaningful and purposeful wellness, recovery and healing, e.g. he uses Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Informed Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Harm-Reduction Psychotherapy,, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to mention but a few.
