MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Dr. Cory Hrushka
Dr. Cory Hrushka is the Owner and CEO of Insight Psychological Inc., where he has spent more than three decades advancing the prevention of sexual abuse and supporting individuals and communities impacted by it.
Dr. Hrushka currently practices as an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (Diplomate Status) and provides supervision to professionals working in sexual abuse recovery, as well as the treatment and assessment of sexual offending behavior. His work focuses on supporting survivors, helping individuals at risk of offending to change their behaviors, and equipping clinicians with the skills needed to do this work effectively—creating a “multiplier effect” that extends impact across communities.
Why did you decide to become an ATSA member?
“I joined ATSA to be part of a dedicated network of professionals committed to preventing sexual abuse and supporting those affected by it. Access to updated research, journals, and conferences was a key factor, but just as important was the opportunity to connect with others doing this critical work. The most valuable aspects of my membership have been staying informed through the latest literature and engaging with like-minded professionals striving to make a difference.”
What do you want others to know?
“Working in the area of sexuality and sexual offending behavior remains nuanced and often highly stigmatized. Professionals who support individuals at risk of, or who have engaged in, sexual offending frequently face misunderstanding or even discrimination. I want to recognize and applaud those willing to take on this challenging work because their courage and commitment truly help create safer communities.”
Future direction
"As I transition toward partial retirement, my focus is on building a strong legacy by creating sustainable systems and mentorship opportunities for the next generation of therapists. We recently launched the Amare Institute, a sex therapy learning and supervision platform designed to advance the field, support clinicians, and ultimately help educate, treat and even prevent sexual abuse in our communities."
How have you been a change maker?
"Throughout my 33+ year career, I have dedicated myself to creating programs, training, and opportunities that strengthen communities and advance the prevention of sexual abuse. I have supervised more than 300–400 supervisees, many of whom now work on the front lines of this essential work. By sharing my knowledge and story, developing impactful initiatives, and empowering others to carry this work forward, I strive to be a force for change. My goal is not only to treat and assess individuals but also to inspire and equip others to do the same—building a collective effort that makes a real difference in the lives of those we serve."
